This lake house and photographic studio is perched on one of the highest points on the Southern edge of Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin. The design seeks to integrate the building with the hillside, while capitalizing upon the impressive views of the City of Madison skyline. It features a large studio, driven into the hill which supports a singular, open living space. Above this, a private master bedroom suite crowns the structure with sweeping views of the skyline, lake and surrounding forest.
The home features a re-interpreted greenhouse, 'drawer' front entrance, and a utility core. By sinking the structure 5' into the hillside the visible mass is reduced, while creating a new private courtyard and mitigating the slope related issues towards the lake.
